I am a Research Scientist at the University of Washington’s Social Development Research Group in the School of Social Work. My main research interests lie in understanding the structure and consequences of impulsive personality traits, particularly as they relate to psychopathology and substance use. Impulsive personality traits are associated with a broad range of psychopathology, yet little is known about how they may interact with emotions and how they manifest in-the-moment.
A second research focus of mine is to help researchers to leverage data to communicate research findings. The implementation gap between available statistical methods and reporting practices presents opportunities for enhancing the impact of the average research project. My constant goal is to communicate about data in a manner that is transparent while focused, rigorous while practical, and cautious while communicative.
Clinically, I am committed to providing evidence-based treatment for a range of problems related to emotion regulation, including behavioral parent training for child externalizing problems, cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety and depression, exposure with response prevention for obsessive-compulsive disorder, and social skills training for teens with social skills deficits.
